One of the most exciting parts of planning your senior session is figuring out where to shoot. Denver and the surrounding Colorado Front Range offer an extraordinary range of backdrops — from dramatic mountain landscapes to gritty urban murals — and the right location can make your photos feel completely, unmistakably yours.

Here are my top Denver-area senior portrait locations, organized by vibe.

For the Nature Lover

About 45 minutes from Denver, Chautauqua Park sits at the base of the Flatirons and offers one of the most iconic Colorado backdrops you can find. The dramatic rock formations, wide open meadows, and sweeping mountain views make every frame feel epic. This is one of my favorite locations to shoot, especially in fall when the golden grasses and warm light come together perfectly. Worth every minute of the drive.

Mt. Falcon Park

Open meadows, panoramic Front Range views, and a mix of open and forested terrain. Great for seniors who want that wide-open Colorado sky without going deep into the mountains.

Red Rocks Area

The area surrounding Red Rocks Amphitheater offers dramatic red sandstone formations and sweeping Colorado sky. Bold, striking, and unlike anywhere else. Perfect for seniors who want something that stands out.

For the Classic, Timeless Look

Washington Park

A Denver classic for good reason. Wide lawns, mature trees, beautiful gardens, and a central location. Wash Park gives you variety within one location and delivers consistently gorgeous results, especially in fall and spring.

City Park

City Park has a slightly more editorial feel, the pavilion, the lake with mountain views, and spacious open lawns make for elegant, polished senior portraits.

For the Urban Senior

RiNo Art District

If you want something bold, creative, and completely unlike a traditional portrait, RiNo is the spot. Colorful murals, textured brick walls, interesting architecture. This is especially powerful for seniors with a creative, artistic, or fashion-forward personality.

LoDo / Downtown Denver

The historic architecture of Lower Downtown — brick buildings, iron bridges, open plazas — creates an elevated urban backdrop. Great for seniors heading to a city university or who simply love a more architectural aesthetic.

For the Epic Mountain Session

Rocky Mountain National Park

For seniors who want truly spectacular Colorado scenery, RMNP is the gold standard. Alpine meadows, dramatic peaks, and aspen groves at peak color in late September. Advance planning required; park entry fees and a travel surcharge apply.

Frequently Asked Questions — Senior Photo Locations in Denver

Can I choose a location not on this list?

Absolutely. If there's a place that's meaningful to you, a hiking trail, your neighborhood, a specific spot with a story, I'm always open to it. The most personal sessions often happen at personal locations.

Can we shoot at multiple locations?

Yes, within reason. If two locations are close together, we can often work both into a session. I'll always advise on what's realistic for your session length so we're not rushing between spots.

What time of day is best?

Golden hour, the hour before sunset, is best for most outdoor Denver locations. For urban spots like RiNo, a slightly overcast midday can actually work beautifully by eliminating harsh shadows. I'll always schedule your session for the best available light at your chosen location.

Do any locations require permits?

Most Denver city parks don't require permits for personal portrait sessions. Some state and national park locations do. I handle all permit logistics, you don't have to worry about any of that.
